FEATURING:
Extremely RARE (1 of 4 known examples) and IMPORTANT Signed WOODEN
SURVEYOR'S COMPASS by George Leighton Whitehouse (b.1797) of
Farmington, New Hampshire. WHITEHOUSE laid out the early Railroad Lines in New
England and is described in a full chapter of Smithsonian Curator Emeritus
Silvio Bedini's book "WITH COMPASS and CHAIN" (see pages 700-703). We
feel this is likely the FIRST of the Whitehouse compasses as the dial is hand
painted and stenciled with the G. L. Whitehouse name. In later examples
Whitehouse went to the paper "compass card" for his dials. Please
email for additional photos and information. EARLY
