A fresh arrival all the way from the
Great Lakes!
This checkerboard was discovered in
Wisconsin
recently and has a "dreamy"
Great Lakes theme
with its
two peninsulas
greeting a
central island
in a rather
impressionistic
fashion. Great colors and sophisticated paint lines.....this board
has it all, including its wonderful size of 18 1/2" by 14 1/2!
Condition is untouched throughout! |
A
wonderfully composed
and powerfully
dramatic late

is carved from Northern White Pine and is signed and dated by its maker

This recently discovered
SEVEN FOOT FARM TABLE
was found in
Searsport, Maine.
It could be used as a dining table but would be a wonderful sofa table
as it has amazing height of 30" and an unusual shallow top measuring
just 17 1/2" wide. A particularly tough form to find in this desirable
size. Original surface of worn brown paint. Coastal Maine ca. 1850.
An absolutely
PRISTINE
and LARGE
example of the work of the
BOSTON ART CARVING COMPANY!!!
The imposing AMERICAN
EAGLE is in amazing
original surface and condition. Found recently "tucked under the eaves"
of a suburban Boston home, its
ORIGINAL GOLD LEAF
has REMARKABLE
LUSTER! If you look
for the BEST in form, surface and condition........this is the one!
Wingspan measures 48". Made in Boston during the mid 20th century.
Beautifully proportioned
and of superior joinery, this fine
18th century "Dish Top"
Candle Stand retains
a superb original finish and is in undisturbed structural condition.
Graceful and elegant yet sturdy and tight, the stand is crafted from
dense mahogany. It measures 28 3/4" tall (when in upright position).
When its top is "down" it measures 19 3/4" tall. Its top diameter
measures 19 3/4" (by 19 1/2" with expected shrinkage). New England ca.
1760. A superior example!
This ORIGINAL
MOOSEHEAD LAKE
"DOCK"
SIGN
from the
COBURN STEAM BOAT COMPANY
at
GREENVILLE, MAINE
is
DOUBLE SIDED
and measures
14 feet in length!!!
This is the original sign from the company which piloted the legendary
steamboat "KATAHDIN"!
The Katahdin still navigates the waters of Moosehead Lake today!!!
A sweetheart of a New
England rarity!! This extremely early
18th century HANGING
SPICE CUPBOARD
has all the "bells and whistles! Dovetailed case, sculptural strap
hinges, wonderfully scalloped crest and a face molded, compartmented
interior. A pleasing and honest surface of early 19th century red
paint over original 18th century red. Its size and proportions are
exquisite measuring a mere 14 3/4" (case width) 10 5/8" deep and
16 1/2" to top of crest (13 3/8" tall to its top). New England
pine with LARGE dovetails, rose head nail and wooden peg
construction. A nearly impossible form to find in this condition and
surface! Discovered recently in a central Maine home. |

This MAGNIFICENT and EARLY carved American Eagle exhibits many
attributes of the Philadelphia eagle carver
WILLIAM RUSH (1756-1833).
In its
OUTSTANDING
original gilded and painted
SURFACE,
the eagle is of a wonderfully manageable size, measuring 9 1/2" tall
and 12' wide. The atypical "ledge" mount, talon detail, eye and feather
carving patterns are all consistent with the work of Wm. Rush. With its
two dimensional form it may be displayed as either free standing or wall
hung.
WILLIAM PIERCE STUBBS |
