A Superb Maine Red Painted, "Rope Leg" Two Drawer Stand. Pegged construction. Outstanding surface. Found recently in Farmington, ME.

An impressive 6 gallon White's Utica (NY) Stoneware Churn with a large Peafowl decoration. Loss to one ear, otherwise clean and nice. 18  1/2" tall. Recently discovered in a Waterville, ME home.

                             
North Shore American Federal Period Card Table having Acanthus Carved Knees and Cast Bronze Feet. Found during the past week in a Massachusetts attic.

A remarkable folk art paint decorated chest. Recently found in the back bedroom of a mobile home in NH, this chest was originally removed from an ancestral farmhouse near Eastport, Maine. Totally square nailed construction. Its original painted surface is SUPERB and DRY. The BEST in Maine country cabinetry and paint decoration. Pine and Basswood. Case width 36". Overall height 49". Depth 18  3/4".

A RARE and REMARKABLE combination! A "minty" first year issue, 1905 Maine Automobile License Plate # 77 along with an ORIGINAL photograph of  the Cummings family of Berwick, Maine aboard their brand new 1905 Knox, bearing plate #77!

A fine Eagle Weathervane in its original surface. Wing span measures 25". Superb condition throughout!

           

Cassius Marcellus Coolidge (Am. 1844-1934). OOC 16  1/2" by 13  1/2" (sight). Original frame. A recently discovered and previously unknown work by this legendary "Dogs at the Poker Table" artist

.

 

 

Ca. 1750 English Tall Clock signed William Webster Exchange Alley, London. Rare, small size measuring 86" to the top of its finial. Please note the wonderful glass "bulls eye" in its waist door and also the early "slide in" (not hinged) dial door with its matching tiny brass knobs on either side of the door frame. Recently found in the barn attic of an early NH home .

 

 

A splendid New England Whaler's Sea Chest with a great paint decorated underside to its lid. The chest has splayed sides and carved beckets as well. Found along the Maine coast.

A Nicely proportioned, tall footed, red painted Rhode Island Hepplewhite Bow Front Chest. Original brass. Case width 40". Found recently in Central Maine.

   

A superbly paint decorated circular pantry box in wonderfully vivid colors and bold floral and geometric composition. Originally found in a Wisconsin attic. 10  1/4" diameter and of early, substantial "stock". Untouched, original condition.

         

A historically important and remarkably decorated marching snare drum bearing the 1822 seal of the Walpole (MA) Infantry. Recently discovered in the barn attic of an early Massachusetts home, the drum measures 17" diameter and stands 13" tall. Its decoration includes a likeness of the legendary Native American Chief, MASSASOIT.

           

A very rare, hand stitched, Civil War period, American Flag, having 35 Stars. The 35 star "Old Glory" flew over our land for only 16 months, beginning when West Virginia became our 35th State on June 20, 1863, at the peak of the Great Rebellion . Just a short time later, on October 31, 1864, Nevada became 36th State of the Union . The flag is in IMMACULATE original condition. 108" by 48". Recently discovered in a NH attic.

     

  

An AMAZING  carved and painted  Folk Art Bird Tree, found in a home on Mt. Dessert Island, Maine. The bird tree is laden with thirteen different songbirds and titled on its base "Birds of North America". Overall height 32". The largest of the birds measure 9" in length. A remarkable Folk Art find from "Downeast"!

 

Isabel Branson Cartwright (Am. 1885-1966). The Sisters Brackett of Monhegan Island (Natalie b. 1920 and Lucille b. 1930). OOC  30" by 29 1/2" (sight). Original frame. Monhegan Island, Maine Ca. 1930.  Directly from the estate of the late Ms. Lucille Bracket. Immaculate original condition.

  

                                                  
Maurice "Jake" Day (Am. 1892- 1963). "My Ham KSJGM"  Watercolor on paper. 12" by 18" (sight). Original frame. A wonderfully entertaining work by the noted Disney and Damariscotta, Maine artist. Directly from the estate of the late Ms. Lucille Brackett

An outstanding 1823 Portland, Maine Coolidge family memorial watercolor on paper attributed to the Misses Mayo school. Please reference page 518, plate IX of the September 1988 issue of THE MAGAZINE ANTIQUES for a similar work by Fanny Whitney of the Mayo school. Pencil, ink and watercolor.  23" by 28" overall. Excellent original condition, in original frame.

         

A remarkably decorated, oval tin document box attributed to Oliver Buckley of Stevens Plains, Maine. Perhaps the best example of his work, extant. Measures 7  1/4" by 5  1/2" and standing 4  3/4" tall. Untouched original condition.

An outstanding flat top Stevens Plains decorated tin document box attributed to Zachariah Stevens.  Measures 8  3/4"w by 4  3/4 d and 5  1/2" tall. Untouched, original condition.

   

An exceedingly rare Stevens Plains, Maine decorated tin coffee pot attributed to Zachariah Stevens.  Measures 9" tall. Untouched, original condition.

An superb domed top Stevens Plains, Maine decorated tin document box attributed to Zachariah Stevens.  Measures 8  7/8"w by 4  1/2" d and 6" tall. Untouched, original condition.

A rare Stevens Plains, Maine decorated tin serving tray, attributed to Zachariah Stevens.  Measures 12" by 17". Untouched, original condition.

Discovered recently in a home in Unity, Maine, this nicely proportioned and inlaid, New England cherrywood cased tall clock is signed "No. 2 N. Hazeltine" on the back plate of its brass movement. The clock has a fine moon phase dial. Measures 96" tall.

An outstanding and early presentation Fire Horn from Dover, NH. Engraved on its front: "Presented to Capt. David Crockett by members of the Fountain Fire Association No. 3.   July 4th ' 65" For His Noble Conduct". Exquisitely engraved and decorated with an early fire wagon, fire hat, ladder, axe, horn and flowers. A truly superb example. Measures 17  1/2" tall. Untouched, original condition.

     

Boldly painted and immaculate Skowhegan, Maine paint decorated and bronze stenciled storage chest having the rare "WARRANTED" stenciled notation on the end of its cleated lid. Measures 36" wide by 15" tall and 18" deep. Superb original condition.

   

Scott Leighton (Am. 1849-1898). Portrait of "General Withers", a race horse once boarded at Waterville, Maine. Recently discovered in a home in Searsport, Maine. OOC 20" by 30". Signed lower right. Unframed.

 

Rare L.W. CUSHING sailboat weathervane found recently, in the cellar of an early Cape style home at Day's Ferry (Woolwich), Maine. Its directionals remain atop a small early barn on the property. Please reference Page 137 of Steve Miller's ART of the WEATHERVANE for a colored picture of this exact form. Measures 40" tall and 37" long. In as found, complete and original condition.

   

Gerrit A. Beneker (Am. 1882-1934) OOB 16" by 12" (sight) Original frame.  Provincetown or Truro, MA Harbor. A significant dedication is inscribed verso from Gerrit Beneker to his dear friend, the Arctic explorer Donald B. MacMillan. It reads: "To my friend Donald B. MacMillan with best wishes from Gerrit A. Beneker  Truro, Mass.  Oct. 30, 1926". The painting is signed and dated in the l.r. "Gerrit A. Beneker 1925". There is also a hand written, pencil notation on the frame, that reads "Gerrit A. Beneker  Truro, Mass.". Both painting and frame are in immaculate, original condition. 16" by 12" (sight). Found recently, in a Central NH home.

  

      

           

Frank Vining Smith (Am. 1879-1967). Fisherman on the Rocks OOB  12" by 16"  Signed l.r. Original frame. Superb original condition. Recently found in Central Maine.

               

                

Alfred Schroff  (Am.  b.1863  d.1939). Watercolor on paper under glass. Titled verso "Cliff and Sea". Signed lower left. Measures 12" by 17" (sight). Has an interesting and original exhibition tag verso with title, signature and price of $45.00. Original frame. Found recently in a coastal NH home. Untouched original condition

Frank F. English (Am. b.1854  d. 1922). Watercolor on paper under glass. Signed lower right "FF English". Measures 14" by 22" (sight). Original frame. Found recently in a Searsport, Maine home. Untouched original condition.

D.D.Coombs (Am. b.1850   d.1938) Titled verso in pencil:"June in the Pasture, New Gloucester, Maine". O.O.C.  Measures 17" by 26" (sight). Signed and dated 1898 lower left. Period and likely original frame. Found recently in a home in Augusta, Maine. Untouched, original condition.

Nathaniel Leander Berry (Am. b.1859  d.1929). Signed lower left and titled verso in the artist's hand "Strange Rock Mountain from Bransfield Meadows". N.L. Berry was one of the noted "Seven Lynn Beach Painters". Please reference THE LYNN BEACH PAINTERS: ART ALONG THE NORTH SHORE 1880 to 1920 by D. Roger Howlett for further examples of Berry's work. Recently discovered in a Cape Ann, MA attic. Measures 10" by 14" (sight). Oil on academy board. Original frame. Untouched, original condition.

A life sized, folk art, carved and painted Penguin. Found in a courtyard garden in Newburyport, MA  23" tall.

A MOST amazing and diminutive, early Maine painted wooden chopping tray in the BEST original, dry, apple green paint. The tray measures just 11  1/2" in length and 6  3/4" wide. This is a rare GEM in painted country "smalls"!!

Outstanding pair of early working Merganser decoys. We previously have sold a hen from the same rig of these decoys which were found in a home near Bangor, ME. The drake and hen both have their original bottom weights and measure 16  1/2". There is a small area of loss to the hen's bill.
