A MONUMETAL Early 20th or late 19th Century Three Piece Stoneware Water Cooler having a Blue Glazed, Raised Panoramic Decoration Depicting Scenes from a Polar Expedition. Perhaps COMMEMORATING the 1909 ARCTIC EXPEDITION of ADMIRAL ROBERT PEARY. Probably “White’s” of Utica, NY 28 ½” tall 15” diameter at top rim of tank.

A signed MASTERPIECE by the legendary Maine wood carver WENDELL GILLEY (Southwest Harbor, Maine 1911-1983). This ¼ Scale Decorative Waterfowl Carving of a GREAT CORMORANT is in PRISTINE ORIGINAL CONDITION! Gifted in the 1970s from the late Farmington, Maine antiques dealer, Frank Dingley to Marshall and Florence Stone of Hampden, Maine. 12 ¼” tall (including mount). Bird (alone) measures 11” long.

A RARE & OUTSTANDING 18th Century Hanging Ornamental Wrought Iron Tavern Sign “Hanger”. Fine weathered surface and remarkable wear to its original “tote ring”! 45 ½” wide (39” maximum hanging width) x 9” at tallest.

A most remarkable and VERY EARLY 18th Century or perhaps LATE 17TH Century “Pilgrim” style Candle Stand in its Original Green Painted Surface. Its original “Removable CrestDovetails” into its back. Northern White Pine top and shaft with Chestnut cleat and Heavy Rock Maple base. Stands 26” tall with top measuring 13 ¾” x 11 7/8”. Base measures 10” x 9 ¾”.

This Rare Large Signed, Dated 1792 and Inscribed Presentation Nautical Octant is in its Original Blue-Gray Painted “Stepped” Wooden Case. Bearing the inscription “Made by Tho. Ripley & Son Hermitage Bridge LONDON For Mr. Robert Foot Aug 12, 1792”. Has Military Style Engraving on its Swing Arm Indicator. Case measures 19 ½” x 16 ½” x 4 ½” tall. Instrument alone measures 17 3/8” x 14 ½ (at widest).

LOT #56. A Diminutive and Masterfully Crafted Pair of Late 17th Century or Early 18th Century Wood and Leather Children’s Shoes (Clogs). In Remarkable Original Surface and Condition. 6 ½” long x 2 ¾” wide x 2 ½” at tallest.

LOT #57. Pair of 17th or Early 18th Century Leather, Wood and Wrought Iron Shoes. Known as “Lancashire Clogs”. 8 ½” long x 4 ½” tall x 2 ¾” wide.

The SEARS SISTERS of HARWICH, MASSACHUSETTS. Ellen (b. 1834) and Susan Olivia Sears (b. 1839). Attributed to JOSEPH WHITING STOCK. Original frame with old “jelly label” provenance, verso. Unsigned, OOC measures 26 ¾” tall x 30 5/8” wide (overall) and 21 ½” x 25 ½” (sight).

A Superb Western Maine Paint Decorated Box attributed to the Paris, Maine school of decorators. This highly developed example is not only special for its profuse and varied decoration but remarkable for its pristine original condition! Red and black graining beneath geometric bronze stenciling and free hand green border striping. Measures 24” wide x 12” deep x 9 ¾” tall.

This unsigned, delightfully tonal impressionist painting of a Lady in the Shadows, was recently discovered in a home on VINALHAVEN ISLAND, MAINE after being rescued many years ago from an old family farm on NORTH HAVEN ISLAND, MAINE. A wonderful “heavy pallette” was used by this unidentified yet masterful artist. OOC in original period frame. Measures 22 ¾” x 28 ½” (overall) and 12” x 17 ½” (sight).

SUPERB EARLY LIGHTING ABOUNDS!!

Offerings include an ULTRA RARE Hanging Trammel Rush Light; an EXQUISITE Paint Decorated Child’s Candle Lantern and TWO Outstanding Wooden Candle Lanterns along with other fine EARLY examples!

A SAMPLING of a FINE SELECTION of 19TH Century of MAINE OIL PAINTINGS to include superb “academic” works by such notable ARTISTS as GEORGE HATHAWAY; FRANKLIN STANWOOD and J.B. HUDSON Jr. along with some fine folk art renderings.

An EARLY TABLE with GREAT PRESENCE!!

This Mid 18th Century New England Queen Anne Period “Button Foot Tavern Table is a wonderful and RARE SURVIVOR!! In its Original Blue - Gray Paint, its SUPERBLY SCRUBBED, Breadboard Ended SINGLE BOARD TOP measures a generous 25 ½” wide. Retaining its fabulous original surface and “clothespinpull at its drawer, the tables original feet are fully in tact as well! Interestingly, perhaps as much as 200 years ago, the table’s top was judged to be needed to “nestle up” to a “gunstock corner” in its 18th century home, hence its back corner (see photos of top) blemish! Otherwise the table is as nice as they come!!

Table measures 42 ½” x 25 ½” (at its top) and stands a full 27 1/8” tall.

To put it in true “Downeast” vernacular, this mid 20th Century “Working Sea Duck Toller” is “just plain dreamy”!!! Having remarkable Folk Art merit, the OVERSIZED (25” long) MAINE Drake Eider Decoy is BEST in both FORM and CRAFT! Please note the sturdy wooden pins that secure its typical Maine “slotted” head. In its first and only paint…….the bird was lightly used or perhaps never “in service”. Carved and painted by an unknown master, ca. 1950. Measures 25” long x 10 ½” at widest and 10” at tallest. Similar in style to a known group of much earlier working Eider decoys that are thought to have originated on Deer Isle.

This 19TH Century FOLK ART WATERCOLOR of a PLAYFUL CAT is a SCHOOL“MERIT AWARD” which is obviously “penned” by the teacher SUSAN MERRIAM (b. 1827 Princeton, MA) to the “Teacher’s Pet CAROLINE MURDOCK (b. 1848 Orange, MA). Period and possibly Original Lemon Gold Frame. Measures 9” x 11” (overall). 7 ½” x 9 ½” (sight).

An EXCELLENT SELECTION of NAVAJO WEAVINGS to include RUGS, BLANKETS and MATS from the 19th and Early 20th Century! Fresh from a FL foot locker, a coastal Maine summer home and a Rangeley, Maine cottage!!

This REMARKABLY EARLY TOMBSTONE ARCHED “HIGH COUNTRY” QUEEN ANNE MIROR is “Hands Down”, THE FINEST 18th Century MIRROR that WE HAVE EVER OFFERED! Its generous size (28 ¾” tall x 14 ½” wide) and amazing “wooden pegged” construction along with the exquisite quality and intriguing subtlety of its carved crest, set this AMERICAN (yes, it is “OUR PINE”) mirror….apart from any other! Its original mirror glass survives and its 18th Century black paint over its original red paint cannot subdue the wonderful “scoop plane” marks that “radiate” through the early surface of its crest!!

Likely Portsmouth, NH area ca. 1750.

A most successful and rare form that must be seen and held to truly be appreciated!

A BOLD and PLEASING Mid 19TH Century Single Sided MAINE TRADE SIGN. Originally found in AUGUSTA, MAINE. Measures 61 ¾” tall x 47” wide and 3” deep (at applied side molding). Please note the professional recent addition for mounting at back. The sign is in superb condition throughout.

A Fine Selection of “Smalls” in Original DRY Surfaces! The largest of the pieces being the “Wagon Wheel” Blue Blanket Box that measures 10 ½” wide x 8 ½” tall.

A Superb Diminutive 18th CENTURY MAINE “BARREL BACK” CORNER CUPBOARD. From the Timothy Brown home (built 1785), West Baldwin, Maine. Measures 80 ¼” tall x 44” wide x 17 ½” deep.
