According to
several hand written provenances
that
appear on its interior
(see photos), this fine
AYER - BRADLEY
family tea table was
made by
the
DEACON JOHN KIMBALL*
(1739-1817) of
Concord, NH
as a
wedding gift
to (his sister in law)
HANNAH AYER
(born Aug. 25, 1751) and
JOHN BRADLEY
(born Feb. 13, 1743) upon their
marriage
in or around 1770.
Also appearing on the table is the stamp of "G.B.
BARROWS"
who was GEORGE BRADLEY BARROWS (born Fryeburg, Maine 1822),
whose mother ANNA AYER BRADLEY BARROWS (wife of John Stuart
Barrows of Fryeburg) was the daughter of Hannah and John
Bradley.
The table,
found at FRYEBURG, MAINE
in 1968
measures
29’’tall with its top measuring 21 ¾’’wide x 30 ¾’’deep.
Generous overhang of 5 7/8’’ (front) and 5 5/8’’ (back). Side
overhang 3 ½’’. The table is structurally perfect and
unmolested! It is of SUPERIOR CABINETRY! In its
third
surface
of
Victorian graining
over early
19th century "putty" gray
which is over its
original red paint.
Pine top and frame with maple legs. Breadboard ended SINGLE
BOARD top. A truly
fine example
with an
AMAZING NH/MAINE PROVENANCE
ATTACHED!

Deacon John Kimball of
Concord married Anna Ayer (born 1740) of Haverhill, Mass, the
second eldest sister of Hannah Ayer Bradley.
*Hannah
Ayer Bradley was the seventh of eleven children of Samuel and
Ann Hazzen Ayer of Haverhill, Mass.

Dr. Tompkins,
who was the
owner
and
founder
of one of
the
EARLIEST
of the
New Bedford APOTHECARIES
as well as the creator of several early 19th century patent
medicine "REMEDIES"
including
Dr. S. TOMPKINS VEGETABLE
BITTERS
and
Dr. TOMPKINS SPRING BITTERS.
A chronology of period 19th century NEW BEDFORD DRUGGIST labels
(from Dr. Tompkins and his successor James E. Blake) accompany the
portrait. In Period and likely original framing, the
oil on paperboard measures
24 1/2"
by
20 1/4"
(overall)
and
17 1/2"
x
13 1/2"
(sight).
Superb original condition.
Recently discovered in a
Westport Point, MA home.

A delightfully crisp, superb and untouched
folk art portrait of a particularly
attractive and
alluring young lady. Attributed to
the hand of STURTEVANT HAMBLEN (1817-1884).
Oil on paperboard, measuring 18 1/2" by 14 1/2" (overall) and 13
1/2" x 9 1/2" (sight). Period and likely original framing.

Point, Massachusetts these four
GEORGE BOYD shorebirds were actually
"gunned over" on the Massachusetts coastline by the uncle of the
