Original
Red Painted Folk Art Carved Walking Stick decorated with a human
head pommel and wonderful interpretations of a man. woman, human
skull and cross bones, stars, anchor, beavers, frogs, turtles,
snake, dogs and more. Unfortunately an inch or two have been
"clipped" from its tip. Otherwise it is in excellent original
condition. A NEAT, recent discovery! 29 1/2" long. |
Oliver Buckley, Stevens Plains
(Westbrook), Maine. A fine and rare decorated tin oval
teapot. Excellent, original condition. 5 1/2" tall. Ca. 1820.
An early,
busily figured, Tiger Maple, stepped,
hanging wall shelf, having a beautifully shaped crest and dovetailed
base. Old and possibly original mellow finish. 36"wide by 38 1/2"
tall. Its deepest shelf measures 8 1/4".

Outstanding Maine
Hepplewhite Tapered Leg Stand in Birch with a boldly contrasting
inlaid drawer front, declaring the owners initials "M.W.". Superb
proportions and delicate legs. Stands 29" tall. Top measures 15
1/2" by 16". Untouched, original surface and condition. |
A most remarkable Folk
Art, Black Americana military band ca. 1930. Carved and painted by
George Allen Britton of Pine Bluff Arkansas. The tallest of the band
members measure 9" tall (from the floor of its stage). The pie shaped
stage meaures 22" wide(at its front) and 15 1/4" deep. Its
musicians are carved and painted pine with cloth hats. Its footed base
or stage is made from plywood having a scalloped leather, brass tacked
skirt. Superb original condition throughout.
Two of a SUPERB offering of several early folk art rugs. On
the left is a graphically appealing, pleasingly composed and early
Maine yarn sewn rug in wonderful colors and condition. 28" by 17". On
the right is a boldly executed Maine hooked rug in outstanding colors,
condition and design. 30" by 32".

Two outstanding pairs of Indian made snowshoes. At the left
are a superb pair of paint decorated snowshoes,
likely made by the Chippewa/Ottawa Indians, ca. 1910. These
finely woven shoes are in the BEST red, white and blue paint. Please
note the trillium, floral decoration and the blue painted "thumbnail"
carved detail on their bows. 38" long. Superb original condition. At
the right is an exquisite and monumental pair of
Northern Cree "Beavertail" snowshoes with
openwork decoration, ca. 1880. The openwork decoration is highlighted
in a subtle red wash. 34" by 25". Superb original condition.
"Twin Cats", a wonderful pair of silhouetted cats cut from velvet. The
pair remains mounted on their original paper backing and sitting,
undisturbed in their original and paint decorated frame. 6 1/2" by 8
1/2" (sight). New England ca. 1850. Superb original condition.

This Chase
family (Roxbury, Massachusetts) Revolutionary War cartridge
box contains its original tin insert with original paper
cartridges. The box comes with an exhibition tag as being part of
the Massachusetts Colonial Exhibit at the Cotton States and
International Exhibition in Atlanta in 1895. |
A rare and pleasing folk
art shadow box, housing a grouping of 23 miniature, carved and painted
songbirds. The shadow box measures just 8 1/2" wide by 5 1/4"
tall and 2 1/2" deep. The background is in watercolor and the flora
is natural materials. New England, ca. 1870.
Whimsically charming Folk Art carving of an American Sailor,
mounted on a carved pedestal which is decorated with American Flags,
Eagle, Cannons and Cannon Balls. Made ca. 1890
by the Spanish American War Naval Captain John Ryder of Belfast,
Maine. Original paint. Overall stands 12" tall. Recently
discovered in a Ryder ancestral home in Orrington, Maine.
Country Hepplewhite
Demilune Table, having a fine scrubbed top and dry scraped to its
original soldier blue paint. Pine top and frame with hardwood legs.
Pegged construction in front with rose head and hand forged nails in
the back and top. New England ca. 1810. Measures 36 3/4" wide 28"
tall and 19" at its deepest point. A superb example of the form.
Unusual small chip carved and painted Spruce Gum Box in the
BEST original red and green. Having a house carved on its front and a
photo of a loving couple on its reverse, the box was likely carved by
a lonely and homesick woodcutter as a reminder of his patient wife and
their home. Measures 3 1/2" tall 2 5/8" wide and 1 3/8" deep. One
slide cover is present.
A
wonderfully paint decorated, oversized slide cover, candle box,
having different vignettes of a schoolhouse, village houses, a
farmhouse and a church on all 4 of its sides. Northern Vermont or the
Eastern Townships of Quebec. Ca. 1880. Measures 14" long 10" wide and
8 1/4" tall. Superb original condition!
"The Return" Winfield Scott Clime (Am.
1881-1958). OOB 11 1/4" by 15 1/2" (sight). Signed l.r. and
titled, dated inscribed verso "To Cliff from
Win, in friendship 1944...painted at Stonington, Conn. ...THE RETURN
.....#146 in catalogue of Lyme Artisans Show 1944". A superior
work by this noted Old Lyme, CT artist. Recently discovered in a CT
home along with another (see below).
